19th April, 2020, 1-3pm
Lockdown did not stop the Youth Empowerment Squad (YES) from holding their monthly meeting. April meeting proved to be a successful VIRTUAL meeting which was well attended by many members. YES plan to use the online platform to hold meetings until further notice. At the start of the meeting, members discussed what they have been doing during lockdown and how they have been finding physical distancing from their peers.
The agenda then led to current projects that YES has initiated including a resource trolley for young people on adult wards, a recruitment video and a ‘What Matters to Me’ video. These projects have temporarily been put on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The group later discussed opportunities to be involved in two upcoming interview panels for the Trust. Members discussed potential interview questions and the value of participating in these interviews.
YES have also been asked to design a leaflet explaining the current situation concerning COVID-19 with the aim of offering support and resources for CYP in East London. Suggestions were made for the leaflet and how to increase the leaflet’s engagement by sharing with other organisations and via social media. They hope the leaflet will be produced within the next month.
Finally, YES Media Consultants suggested creating a hashtag to share what members have been doing during quarantine as an opportunity for followers to get to know YES members and contribute to the hashtag. Please look for our hashtag on future social media posts: #YESstayconnected.
The Barts Health Youth Empowerment Squad is always looking for ways to expand their network. If you are interested in any of the above and/or having a hands-on approach to making a positive change for young people in hospital, please join our meetings!
