17th, May 2020 1-3pm (Virtual Session)
At the May meeting, an update on the progress of the COVID-19 leaflet for young people was discussed and YES members were shown a draft. YES members offered feedback. It was discussed that members would like to include general support resources so young people beyond East London could benefit from the leaflet. The leaflet will be finalised soon, check out social media for an update!
Additionally, members discussed feedback from their experience sitting on a recent Matron Interview panel. Members decided they’d like to formalise the YES interview panel process and leaflets will be created to help support other members participating in interview panels.
Finally, members discussed the Trust Policy on Consent to Examination. Three key themes were outlined concerning consent for Y/P: Do they get to sign the consent forms, are they informed on the different options, do they feel comfortable enough to consent? Discussions were had with members around consent to treatment and what is important for members before giving their consent. Information will be relayed to appropriate Trust members.
Guest Speaker Ben Pelham, Senior Creative from Brickwall, was also present at this meeting. He spoke to YES about his COVID-19-related animation project for young people -in collaboration with London School of Health and Tropical Medicine. Ben explained that Brickwall provides young people a platform to express their frustrations, worries and positive aspects of COVID-19 through sharing their stories to help motivate and support each other. Members were invited to participate in a compilation video to be shared on social media.
