Volunteer with us
Do you have some time to spare and are looking for a way to give back? We have a range of volunteering opportunities you can get involved with, which make a real difference to the service we provide to children and young people and their families.
Paediatrics Ward 6C at The Royal London Hospital
Do you have a passion for helping and supporting children, young people and their families in a hospital environment? If you've got good knowledge of playing and communicating with children and are able to commit to a weekly session, we want to hear from you.
We're looking for volunteer patient champions to support the smooth running of the outpatient paediatric areas and to help patients and visitors during their visit to the paediatric wards.
Why we need you
Sometimes children have to wait for their elective surgery, and as they're unable to eat due to nil by mouth, they can get understandably bored and restless.
Our volunteers organise game activities and read stories, as well as provide information as requested by parents/carers/visitors. Volunteers can also play a crucial role in helping visitors find their way around.
What you'll do
Volunteers will be required to come in to help support the children’s day care area. This is largely for children who are awaiting surgery. You'll play an active role in supporting the children as well as parents whilst they are waiting to go in to surgery.
As part of your role you will:
- Set up the play area
- Read stories
- Actively engage with the children
- Find out information if requested
- Help to take children and parents to the surgery area
- Provide support to anxious parents if appropriate
- Help at the lift area and to support visitors to navigate their way to the appropriate area
Acorn Ward at Whipps Cross University Hospital
Are you a friendly and positive person with good communication skills looking for a way to give back? By joining our volunteering team you'll help us ensure we provide the best service to our patients.
Why we need you
Paediatrics is a very small portion of the work that we do at Whipps Cross but our paediatric patients touch many departments during their treatment. The use of distraction techniques is very well documented to help children and young people feel less scared during procedures.
Our Paediatric User Group is very keen to ensure areas such as radiology, outpatients, emergency department, eye treatment centre and theatres have a good selection of age appropriate toys for the children we treat. And in order to keep our children safe we need to ensure these toys are cleaved regularly.
What you'll do
Our volunteers help keep the toys we have available clean, well presented and safe for our children and young people.
